Topics include the development of nationalism and socialism in late 19th-century Europe, the causes of the First World War, trench warfare on the western front, war in the Balkans, total war on the home fronts, the Russian Revolution of 1917, the collapse of the Central Powers, the 1918 settlements, the postwar conflicts that continued to haunt Europe until 1923, and the concept of the Lost Generation. |
