(Available only to students in the law enforcement track.) A comprehensive examination of the evolution of community policing standards, from its origins to contemporary 21st-century practices. Discussion covers the dynamic shifts in community priorities over time and how they have influenced the evolution of policing expectations. Topics include strategies for communicating effectively with leaders of various community groups (faith-based, youth, business, civil/advocacy), expectations of public service trust, mandated trainings, transparency, oversight, proactive partnerships, and engagement, as well as the review and analysis of climate surveys. |

An in-depth examination of standard report writing in law enforcement settings that extends beyond what is traditionally taught in police academies. Topics include the importance of details, the myth of necessary vagueness, writing for credibility, and appropriate formatting, as well as the importance of meticulous notetaking to effective report writing. |
